Stand with Journalism: Secure Your Spot Today

Journalists today face unprecedented challenges—press freedom is under attack, misinformation is rampant, and the media industry is evolving at a rapid pace. The SPJ Region 11 Conference, hosted by SPJ NorCal and the University of San Francisco’s Media Studies Department, brings together journalists, editors, media professionals, and students for two days of insightful discussions, hands-on workshops, and networking opportunities.

Join us as we tackle critical issues in journalism, including the future of the attention economy and misinformation, immigration reporting, the latest investigative tools, and the rise of independent journalism. Whether you're a veteran journalist, mid-career or just starting out, this conference offers invaluable insights and connections to help navigate the ever-changing media landscape.

The conference will take place at USF at 2130 Fulton St., San Francisco, CA 94117. The keynote program and reception portion on Friday evening will take place at the Internet Archive at 300 Funston Ave, San Francisco, CA 94118. Transit and parking directions can be found here. Speaker bios can be found here.

About the organizers:

The Society of Professional Journalists, the nation's most broad-based journalism organization, is dedicated to preserving the free press as a cornerstone of our democratic society. The Northern California chapter hosts two competitive awards contests each year, one for overall excellence in journalism and one for freedom of information work. It also supports local journalists through advocacy, networking and continuing education.

The Media Studies department at USF offers a liberal arts degree, including Film and Journalism minors, that links media studies and media practice. Students study the history, economy and cultural impact of media while also learning to make media that matters, telling stories that engage the social, political, and cultural issues of our time using audio, video, and the written word.
