SPJ NorCal Freedom of Information Committee's 2025 James Madison Awards

Join the Society of Professional Journalists Northern California Chapter’s Freedom of Information Committee in honoring the people and organizations of the region who have advanced transparency, open government, and records access through journalism, activism, and the courts in 2024. We are excited to host this year's awards in-person at the Marines’ Memorial Club in San Francisco.

Tickets are free for award winners, $90 for non-SPJ Members, $80 for SPJ Members and $60 for students. Seating is open, but 8-person group tables may be purchased for $800. 8-person student tables are available for $600. Tickets are nonrefundable.

About the organizer: The Society of Professional Journalists, the nation's most broad-based journalism organization, is dedicated to preserving the free press as a cornerstone of our democratic society. The Northern California chapter hosts two awards contests each year, one for overall excellence in journalism and one for freedom of information work. It also supports local journalists through advocacy, networking and continuing education.
